Stainless Steel 317L Rings are a top-class and premium upgrade for corrosion resistance. UNS S31703 or 317L alloy provides high resistance to chloride ions, pitting, and crevice corrosion environments. 317L alloy rings are a low-carbon variant with significantly higher proportions of molybdenum to maintain mechanical properties and offer superior corrosion resistance even in aggressive high-temperature environments.
The enhanced corrosion resistance of stainless steel 317L rings comes from molybdenum (up to 4%), which is 2 times higher than regular 316L options. The high content of molybdenum resists pitting and crevice corrosion risks. To compare effectiveness, the Pitting Resistance Equivalent (PRE) score of 317L alloy is approx. 28 versus 24 for the 316L alloy. It has a significant addition of molybdenum (up to 4%) that ensures good mechanical strength and continuous performance even in specific surroundings. When environments go beyond the bounds of the standard stainless steels, such as extreme concentrations of high chlorides and aggressive acids and organic acids, the standard grade, like 304, or semi-advanced like 316L, can create a breakout, but the 317L alloy is constructed for this particular situation to meet your critical operations-demanding needs.
317L / Werkstoff 1.4438 alloy is resistant to a wide range of environments, including resistance to formic acid, sulfurous acid, formic acid compounds, citric acids, and many more. It is a low-carbon version alloy that minimizes the high risk of carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries of chromium carbides during the welding procedures. 317L rings are excellent in creep strength, stress rupture, and tensile strength. As it features (up to 40%) min. elongation and significant robustness, it overall features superior mechanical properties. This grade alloy generally remains non-magnetic under annealed conditions but becomes somewhat magnetic post-welding or cold working.
