Duplex Stainless Steel/UNS S32205 is a high-strength and cost-efficient option designed for good corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments. Alloy 2304 or 2205, also known as UNS S32205, is produced by seamless ring rolling for continuous production and open-die forging for intermittent heavy compression for large or custom ring options.
Duplex (UNS 32205) is an austenitic-ferritic stainless steel with a stabilized microstructure having almost equivalent austenitic and ferritic phases. It has a chemistry of chromium (up to 23%), nickel (up to 4%), and very low molybdenum residue that brings up high strength, good toughness, and certain corrosion resistance comparable to 316L alloy in several environmental conditions.
Seamless ring rolling allows circumferential grain flow, generally preferred for good structural integrity. This particular duplex grade alloy offers yield strength higher than 304L/316L austenitic steel grades, up to two times higher. It offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and good resistance to corrosive media. Industries usually prefer Duplex (UNS 32205) rings for service temperatures up to 300°C. Duplex (UNS 32205) provides continuous fatigue resistance, tolerance control, reliability in cyclic environments, and significant resistance to corrosive media in a wide range of environments. It also offers resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
